The overall objective of the Working Group on e-Health is to strengthen communication and cooperation within the existing Danish e-Health research networks and partners in the South.

e-Health research covers practically all areas of health care, from health training via health information systems, diagnosis, clinical use of ICT, mobile health care to telehealth and telemedicine. In each instance e-Health research should focus on sustainable ways to overcome the challenges of socially determined inequities in healthcare and health outcomes.

e-Health is already and will in the future be an even more significant and integrated part of solutions to the global health problems. Therefore, the universities in the South need strengthened capacity to

  • Critically assess imported e-Health technologies
  • Develop their own e-Health technologies sensitive to the local African context
  • Enhance the capacity of health care professionals and citizens to use e-Health technologies

  • Define Health Informatics, e-Health and mobile health
  • Investigate career opportunities within health informatics and health care in Ghana and Tanzania
  • Propose a workshop on e-Health education in Africa for Medinfo 2013 with the perspective of establishing an IMIA working group on the topic.
  • Explore and develop a health informatics teaching programme
  • Communicate the activities of the thematic working group
  • Look at guidelines for developing software to e-Health in both Tanzania and Ghana.
