Poor health constitutes a significant barrier to the economic and social development and places a tremendous burden on millions of individuals in developing countries.

Improvements to health rely on a comprehensive knowledge of the biological, economic, political, sociological and environmental determinants of health, as well as a profound understanding of the important role that health systems play in the process.

The Platform on Human Health (PHH) supports universities and institutions of higher learning in developing countries to produce the next generation of even better qualified health professionals and improve evidence-based policy making at all levels of society.

The Platform on Human Health (PHH) forms part of Universities Denmark's initiative Building Stronger Universities.

The Platform on Human Health's activities focus on strengthening capacities in relation to research based education, health research and dissemination. The main areas of activities include:

  • Development of postgraduate courses and support to PhD and MSc projects
  • Enabling Research Environment
  • Institutional Capacity Building
  • Networking, communication, dissemination

In the first phase (2011-2013) Danish PHH partner universities collaborate with PHH partners in GhanaTanzania mainland and Zanzibar.
